Set exceptions to the repetition

Hey folks, I’ve really appreciated what I’ve been able to build for our site with Elfsight, but I have to say I’m really disappointed that I can’t edit/cancel single events in a repeating series - to the point where it makes me consider cancelling. This is absolutely a core feature that we need to ensure our calendar stays up to date, and the workarounds are obnoxious, to say the least.

We run events for card games, including weekly events, but also many, many one-off events that take the place of our weeklies, events for other games that take up space and cause us to cancel weekly events, and holidays that disrupt our store schedule. So we need to be able to frequently remove or modify single events in a repeating series to keep up.

I wish I had looked into this to this level before choosing Elfsight, to be honest - I had assumed it was such a basic feature of recurring events that it would obviously be included in a paid service.

I know the team is looking into it/working on it, but I have to make sure I’ve included that I’m not just hoping it gets added, but if we cancel our subscription, it will be 100% because of this missing feature and for no other reason. I really hope this is high on the priority list and gets added very, very soon.

in the Events Calendar to have an option to list all holidays if we are close, so calendar will not show repeated daily or monthly events on that holiday date. Right now there is not option for this, if you have a daily event Mon thru Fri and Wednesday is a holiday or organization is closed for a meeting, there is not option to close down wednesday. most likely you have leave it as an open day, or remove it altogether. It will be nice to have an option to list all annual holidays and programmed closed days so repeated events are not showing on those days, intead for that date, will show holiday info or a custom message why we closed

Hey there, guys @Josh_Wolters, @Norton

Thanks a ton for sharing your detailed use cases with us!

We know how important this feature is for many of you and totally understand your concerns. Actually, we’ve even looked into it, but there are some technical challenges preventing its faster implementation right now.

Anyway, we are not going to abandon this feature request. We’re committed to finding solutions to these obstacles and will get it released as soon as possible.

Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted on any updates right here :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for your input and understanding!

Any update on this feature, or at least a way we list holidays federal and state so events will not pop up in the calendar for that date

Hi @Norton

Much as I’d love to share an update, we haven’t got any news yet. I am really sorry :pensive:

Once anything comes up, I’ll update you here right away!

The only workaround for this case was suggested by @RobinZ in her message above. Feel free to give it a try!

It will be nice to create a holiday list on the admin settings, that will allow us to add a message that if we are close or not; toggle either open to close for the day and remove repeated events for that day but daily repeated events will continue as per usual the following day or day before

Interesting suggestion! We’ll have it in mind :slightly_smiling_face:

I know there was a slight update in July saying there was no update.

We have office hours for over 10 teams and there are often holidays or cancellations… it creates a huge mess to have 15-20 events x 10 for each team in the ElfSight calendar list and then have to delete them as time goes on.

We’ve been talking about the technical challenges of the exception rule since 2022 and we’re in the 2nd half of 2024 now. This is starting to create more work for our team in the widget. Even an Outlook calendar, you can cancel an “event” in a series. I understand that is a much deeper technical issue, but we haven’t received an actual update on this either. What does the actual engineering team say? Is it something they are even prioritizing? The workarounds are starting to make more work, which, as the only person who does the calendar for our entire agency, is making considerably more work.

Any tangible update ? Should we not give our hopes up? Typically with software companies, there is a roadmap for requested features. Anything beyond “we know it would make the app better” ?

Hi @Matthew7

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback!

I completely understand your concerns, especially given the impact this is having on your team’s workflow. I’m really sorry about it :pensive:

I’ve discussed this with our development team, and unfortunately, this feature isn’t on our roadmap yet.

The main challenge lies in the complexity of implementing this feature. While this request garnered significant interest, the technical obstacles are more challenging than initially anticipated, which has delayed our ability to move forward with it.

We absolutely recognize the value that this feature would bring to our users, and we are not abandoning the idea. However, at this time, we can’t provide a specific timeline or promise a quick solution.

Please know that as soon as we have any updates or a clearer path forward, I’ll make sure to update you right here. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us, and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we work through these challenges.

Thank you again for your support and for being an active part of our community!

We have many recurring events, but sometimes the event falls on a Holiday. We would like to option to remove the event for just that day.
Currently, we can remove the recurring event entirely, hide the recurring event (which hides all of the dates for that event), or duplicate.
I would like the option to just remove the event on that day.

I just noticed another post asking for the same type of editing feature. So, it looks like it would be a big help!!!

Greetings and welcome aboard, @Loud_Librarian

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Glad to say that this idea is already on the Wishlist. I’ve merged your comment with the related discussion, where we’ll keep you updated :slightly_smiling_face:

I manage a calendar for a homeless coalition in Hollywood with a lot of community and member events. Some of these events, like our bimonthly member meetings, are recurring. Occasionally, we need to cancel a meeting, as we do with this upcoming member meeting on 11/19

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to cancel or edit the event since it’s part of a series. Would appreciate any and all suggestions or guidance here. Thanks!

Hello there, @Tim_Davis

You are right! Unfortunately, it’s impossible to cancel specific repetitions right now.

We already have this idea on the Wishlist. I’ve moved your comment to the dedicated discussion, where we’ll keep you updated :slightly_smiling_face:

It would be awesome if you could make a recurring event on the calendar and then remove it from a single date. So say I make a recurring event for a Wednesday meeting, but one week of the month it is cancelled–I’d like to be able to remove the event ONLY from the date it is no longer being held on without having to delete the meeting everywhere it appears on my calendar.
