Set exceptions to the repetition

Hello guys @Matthew7 @Kyle_Lasky

We do understand your point and absolutely agree that this functionality is essential for the repeated events. Weā€™re eager to include this functionality, but itā€™s quite technically challenging and demands significant improvements on our end.

Though we have plans to start working on this feature, I am afraid, we wonā€™t be able to release it in the near future. I am really sorry!

Once any news come up, Iā€™ll make sure to update you here.

Thanks a million for your interest and help! It really helps us move in the right direction :slightly_smiling_face:

As the topic says, it would be nice if it is possible to exclude dates from and repeating event.

Share your use case and provide as many details to support your idea as possible:

Hello there @Dirk73

Yeah, I agree that this feature would definitely enhance our app. We already have such a request in our Wishlist and Iā€™ve moved your comment there. All the updates will be posted here :slightly_smiling_face:

Many thanks for sharing your feedback with us and welcome to the Community!

3 posts were split to a new topic: Additional dates for the repeated events

I would love a ā€œMonthlyā€ repeat option.

@Shany_Porras Glad to tell you that the Monthly repeat option is available in our app:

Feel free to check it out :slightly_smiling_face:

On my event calendar I have set a recurring weekly event for my online group coaching calls at 5pm: and I need to change the time of one of these calls outside of the normal sequence to 7pm.

What is the best way to handle this? If it were in my Outlook calendar I could just move that one event to a different time without impacting the rest of the events.

Please help!

Thanks

Hello @user10928

Unfortunately, there is no way to set exceptions for the repetitions. I am really sorry :pensive:

The only workaround at the moment is to set the repetition until the date with the different event time and create a separate event for this date.

We already have a similar request in the Wishlist. Iā€™ve moved your comment to the dedicated thread, where weā€™ll keep you informed about any changes.

A huge thank you for pointing us in this direction!

OK ā€“ thank you ā€“ be great to get this basic functionality in place.

We have multiple weekly recurring events that occasionally are not offered due to staffing or building closures. It would be amazing if we could hide recurring events for that specific date rather than having to hide the entire event.

For example, we have a service that is usually available Monday-Friday from 9:00am-8:00pm, but the facilitator is not available to meet on one specific Wednesday. Itā€™s a shame to either have to hide the entire Monday-Friday sequence or add an additional event saying that that one service is unavailable on that one Wednesday.

I am among the many other users who wish this was an option. Right now the workaround (which is tedius, but the only option at the moment) is to (using your example):

  1. clone the event series
  2. change the end date of the original version to Tuesday
  3. change the start date of the cloned event series, to the first date of the rest of the series (Thursday)
  4. thus removing that specific Wednesday from the series

You may have already figured this out of course. Hopefully a fix for this will be coming soon!

Hey there @Marshall_Turner

What a smart trick, it actually works! Thanks a million for sharing your solution, thatā€™s much appreciated

As for the adding this option to the settings, Hope the devs will find a solution, and Iā€™ll make sure to update you here once I have any news.

There should be an option to ā€˜cancelā€™ certain dates without canceling and recreating the whole recurring event. For example, we have weekly Wednesday night trivia and a special themed trivia on the last Wednesday of the month. Iā€™d like to be able to skip the last Wednesday of the month on the regular trivia night event. And this month, the themed trivia was rescheduled for the second to last Wednesday instead of the normal last Wednesday, so Iā€™d like to create an exception for the 29th to ā€˜cancelā€™ the event only for that day so that it no longer appears on the calendar. Then I can create a one-off event for the rescheduled day if needed, but that way I wouldnā€™t have to set the recurring event to end > create a one-off event for the rescheduled date > recreate the recurring event to pick back up next month on its normal schedule. The previous calendar we used had this feature as a ā€œDate Exceptionā€ where you could just put in a date youā€™d like to remove from the recurring list.

Many thanks for such a thorough comment!

@Hi-Wire_Brewing - One of my clients is a church and while they have service every Sunday, there is a special service on the first Sunday. My workaround was to create 4 recurring monthly events:

  • 3 identical for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month
  • 1 special one for the 1st Sunday of each month
  • and then manually entered for the three months that have 5 Sundays in 2024.

It is not perfect, and we do have to do some maneuvering when there is a special service on a given Sunday (e.g., Easter, Pentecost) similar to the other work-around I described above, but it was better than creating 52 separate events.

Have an event repeat the days set, but skip days that there is a different event. (We are a food truck and use this to show our location on days and also show our events.)
