Set exceptions to the repetition

This one issue is a constant thorn in our sides (not just with you but with all calendars). We have classes that run weekly, but almost all months have a holiday that requires a skip. Then we are jumping through all sorts of hoops to make the calendar be correct.

Thanks a lot for sharing, @Jim_Benson, and welcome to the community!

I completely understand your frustration, and I’m really sorry that our Event Calendar widget doesn’t currently support exceptions. I know our developers have explored several approaches to this request but have run into technical challenges they haven’t been able to resolve yet.

This feature is definitely on their radar, but unfortunately, we don’t have any updates at the moment :pensive: I’ll be happy to post here as soon as there’s any progress :pray:t2:

Thank you very much for your patience and support!

We have got a couple of events which run every week except in school holidays. Could an option be added to pause an event for a set time, or between two dates?

Greetings and welcome aboard, @user18754

Right now, it’s impossible to do this, but we already have such a request on the Wishlist. I’ve merged your comment with the existing thread, where we’ll keep you in the loop :slightly_smiling_face:

We offer events and use the recurring feature quite a bit.

For example, event every Saturday night, so we set up one to months at a time.

Occasionally, we have to cancel an event on a Saturday night due to instructor off or something else. For example, we set up the event every Saturday in March of 2025 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th. In this case, the instructor is out for the 15th and we need to cancel that class just for that day. We would like to a way to cancel just that date.

Eventbrite handles this. They bring up the calendar for March and we select march 15th, and delete that date. The 1,8, 22 and 29th remain.

Would make setting up the calendar easier.

Something else that would make it easier is if we could see the begin date on the calendar editor on the left side easier. Since we have to repeat the same event, seeing the start dates would really help.

Hi there, @David_Gasper

Many thanks for sharing your use case with us!

At the moment, it’s impossible to set exceptions for the recurring events, but this idea is already on the Wishlist. I’ve merged your comment with this request, where we’ll keep you in the loop :slightly_smiling_face:

I would find it difficult to believe you have had any one suggestion/request from users that has more interest from your paying clients than this one. Yet 3 years later, you continue to tell us ā€œthis idea ia already on the Wishlist.ā€ Do we need to find a genie’s lamp and get rubbing? Is this request so complicated that your tech crew keep pushing it down the ā€œWishlistā€ to avoid working on it? Surely there are ample examples of other calendars that have always allowed exceptions. What’s the deal? Will you be honest with us?

Thank you for your comment, @John_Mixon!

I totally get your concern, and I’m really sorry that we haven’t released this feature yet. I’ve just discussed it with the devs, and, unfortunately, there are other issues we need to sort out before we can work on the repetition exceptions.

While it might seem simple, integrating this feature’s logic into the widget’s configurator, while keeping everything compatible, is trickier than it looks. Rest assured, this request isn’t forgotten, and we’ll post an update here as soon as we have news.

Thank you for your feedback!

There should just be an option to select multiple dates within a set event. Very regularly I schedule mutiple events that don’t repeat on a frequency as you have defined. My current wordpress website just allows me to select multiple dates for a single event entry. This is literally increasing the amount of work my team will have to do to individually enter everything in.

Thanks a lot for your comment, @Abby_Abramovich, and welcome to the community! :waving_hand:t2:

Appreciate you sharing your use case, I really hope we’ll find a way to make the repetition option more flexible :folded_hands:t2:

This would be extremely helpful for organizations have different registration links for different dates of an repeat event for the season. The fact that we have to duplicate the same event for weekly events, but can’t edit the registration link for the button is causing some painful tedious work for our staff who needs to enter 50+ repeat events individually for just a single program and then have to do that for 4 other programs…

Hey there, @Jacq

I completely get your point, thank you so much for the feedback!

Let’s hope the devs will be able to consider this idea in the upcoming updates. If any news comes up, we’ll update you here right away :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m (very) new to Elfsight and, although the Event Cal is exactly what I need for my yoga studio and find it pretty comprehensive, the one glaring omission is the ability to delete/ cancel individual instances of a repeat event. I do understand the devs are working on the issue, and hope they come up with a solution soon.

This is a pretty big missing feature as it’s a common occurrence, but having used Elfsight for 2 years at this point, it’s become less and less of an issue (this is with 100’s of events and about 15 or so repeating events). When someone asks me to cancel an event, I just duplicate the event and change the new reoccurance to the date after the canceled date and the old one to end before the canceled date. With the ability to duplicate an event, it honestly only takes about 1-2 minutes total. It would be great to click an event and see every instance and just remove one, but this workaround is simple, fast, and works perfectly for the time being.

Hey there, @regdent and welcome to the Community :waving_hand:

Thanks a bunch for sharing your feedback with us!

We completely understand how helpful this feature would be for many users. We’d love to release it sooner, but unfortunately, there are some technical issues that should be resolved before we can work on the repetition exceptions.

Hopefully, the devs will be able to overcome these issue and start working on this functionality.

As for now, you can use the workaround suggested by Matthew - this is the only solution at the moment.

@Matthew7 Many thanks for sharing your tip with us :slightly_smiling_face:

I just had to manually end a recurring event for the exception week and then create a new event that would recur beginning after the exception week. It would be so much easier if you could cancel a single event in a recurring series and be asked if this exception applies to all of the events in the series or only this particular event. Google Calendar handles this very well. Is this feature in the works? I’ve noticed that this original post is nearly 3 years old. Thank you!

Hi there and welcome to the Community, @Isa_Leshko :waving_hand:

Thanks a bunch for sharing your thoughts with us!

I totally agree that this feature would be a huge time-saver. As Helga mentioned above, our devs have already looked into a few possible solutions, but some technical hurdles kept us from moving forward so far.

However, I’d like to assure you that this idea isn’t abandoned, and we’ll update you here as soon as we have any news :slightly_smiling_face:

Friends, this request is now marked as ā€˜Planned’, which means we’re currently exploring possible development options, so it’s on our radar :muscle:t2:

Please note that we can’t provide any specifics at this stage, as we’re still in the process of estimating potential solutions. Let’s hope we’ll see it in the ā€œIn Progressā€ status, though!

We have recurring events that happen each week… except when they don’t!. E.g. Christmas / Holidays etc. Please allow the ability to choose dates that can be excluded or hidden from a recurring event.
