I thought that I would use a Gmail template to auto-respond to the Elfsight Contact Us form on my Google Site. Unfortunately Gmail filters aren’t suphisticated enough to extract reply-to information and use that. Although I can manually reply to the person who completed the form, it seems that the from address is Elfsight and so my template heads in that direction and is bounced back.
Hi there @Ben_C
Ah, I do understand your concerns and really sorry about this issue!
Indeed, popular providers like Gmail rely on advanced email sorting tools that determine what should be sent to Spam. Thus, Elfsight Form submissions may end up in Spam in some cases.
To ensure the delivery of the submissions, you should follow the steps described in our guide - Troubleshooting submissions ending up in Spam.
However, you’ve mentioned that the emails are bounced back when you are using the Autoresponder option or trying to reply to the submissions.
Could you please send me a screenshot of the error you see and a link to the page where your widget is installed? I’ll be happy to look into this for you
Hi,
Maybe my post wasn’t as clear as it could have been.
This is the situation:
I am using an Elfsight “contact us” form/widget on my website (https://sites.google.com/view/lodgings-plus/Lodgings-Plus-Contact-Form?authuser=0).
When I receive a form from a potential customer, manually I can successfully use “reply” via Gmail and the sender’s email address correctly appears.
However, if I set Gmail to operate a filter for such “contact us” messages and send back a template reply automatically, it uses the Elfsight “from” address rather than the “reply-to”.
So my auto-reply goes to Elfsight’s address which I think is an auto-bouncing one for the system that sends on the “contact us” forms.
In an ideal world, of course, the Gmail filter itself would offer the option to read and use the “reply-to” address but, sadly, it does not.
I think others before me have asked whether it is possible for Elfsight to arrange things so that the “from” address displayed on contact us forms sent on to widget users such as myself is the one provided on the form by the customer.
Having said all this, I appreciate that there may be logistical reasons as to why this won’t be implemented by Elfsight. For example, essentially “spoofing” a from could activate some spam filters. But if you could announce that (or point me to the announcement if it was already made) that might stop others like me asking.
Regards,
Ben
If I got you right, there is an issue with delivery of the auto-reply enabled in the widget’s settings:
So, this auto-reply goes to notifications@forms.elfsightmail.com instead of the email address specified in the form submission, right?
If it is, did you just try to add another Gmail address of yours, and it wasn’t delivered? Or maybe you see some kind of error that the email was bounced?
I’ve tried to reflect this behavior with my widget and there is no issue on my end. The auto-reply goes directly to the email address I’ve added when filling the form. Thus, the auto-reply shouldn’t be sent to notifications@forms.elfsightmail.com.
Anyway, it would be really helpful if you could share a video screencast of the issue with all the steps. Could you please send it to me directly (click on my profile image and choose Message)?
I’ll be happy to investigate it for you
Hi,
Thanks for looking into this for me.
Although your analysis of the issue I described was not on point, by sending me that picture of the control panel you alerted me to the fact that Elfsight “contact-us” forms already offers an auto-responder.
So me trying to implement a bespoke auto-responder via my Gmail account (and failing for the reasons that I outlined) was unnecessary.
I’ve cut and pasted my Gmail template into your in-house auto-response place and will see whether it works.
Again, thanks for looking into my query.
Regards,
Ben
Ah, I finally got what you meant!
Anyway, happy to hear that you liked the built-in Auto-Reply option. Hope that it works for you and if any questions come up, we are here to help
