Website Review #17: Improvement Tips for Moving & Relocation Site

Cool Hand Movers is a Brooklyn moving company that helps customers with local moves across NYC and surrounding areas.

Since moving involves trusting someone with your belongings, the website focuses heavily on building confidence — showing the team, sharing reviews, explaining pricing, and making the service more transparent.

Here are the things that stood out to us and a few details we would refine :backhand_index_pointing_down:

What’s working well?

A few decisions on the website are doing a lot of work behind the scenes:

The first screen shows real people, not just promises

The hero section immediately answers the main question a visitor has: “Who am I trusting with my belongings?

The video with the moving team at work is much more convincing than generic moving photos. Combined with a clear CTA and NYC-focused messaging, it gives visitors a reason to keep exploring.

Press mentions do a lot of heavy lifting

The logos of Architectural Digest, Inc., New York Magazine, and The New York Times appear right after the hero section — exactly where they have the most impact.

For a service where trust is everything, third-party recognition works much better than another company claim.

The website answers the questions people actually have

The “Why choose Cool Hand Movers?” section focuses on real concerns:

  • Will the price change later?
  • Who will show up?
  • What happens if something gets damaged?

Flat rates, in-house movers, and insurance details address these concerns directly instead of relying on generic phrases like “quality service”.

The service details clarify pricing

The “What’s included” section does a good job showing what customers get. Seeing these details makes the flat-rate promise much easier to trust.

The eco-friendly approach is practical, not just a statement

Reusable boxes and donation programs are presented as actual services customers can use.

It makes the sustainability angle feel useful — less waste, fewer things to buy, and easier preparation for a move.

What Could Be Improved?

We also noticed a few things that could make the experience a bit smoother:

Broken-looking section

One section currently shows a large black rectangle instead of the expected video content.

This is especially noticeable because the message next to it is about protecting belongings — one of the strongest trust points on the page. A blank area there can make the section feel unfinished.

[!note] Recommendation
Add a poster image for the video block.

This way visitors always see meaningful content, even if the video takes time to load or autoplay is blocked.

The main CTA keeps changing names

The website uses several versions of the same action:

  • Get a moving quote
  • Get your free rate
  • Get a custom quote
  • Get a rate for your move

They all lead to the same place, but changing the wording makes visitors stop and process the button again.

[!note] Recommendation
Choose one main CTA and repeat it across the website — for example, “Get a moving quote”.

The heading structure is hard to scan

Some section titles and smaller card headings look too similar in size and weight.

This makes it harder to quickly understand what is a main section and what is supporting information.

[!note] Recommendation
Create clearer differences between section headings, card titles, and body text so the page hierarchy is easier to follow.

Service links are hidden inside the text

Some internal links, like “Learn more about our local moving services”, are placed inside paragraphs.

They are easy to miss and add extra visual noise, especially in darker sections.

[!note] Recommendation
Turn them into separate buttons or clearer standalone links with the same style and placement across sections.

How do Elfsight widgets perform?

We’ve also checked how the Elfsight widgets support the visitor journey and interact with the rest of the page:

Google Reviews

The Google Reviews widgets add an important layer of trust to the website.

Visitors can see real customer names, photos, ratings, and recent reviews without leaving the page. For a moving company, where people are trusting someone with their belongings, this kind of social proof helps remove doubts before requesting a quote:

The only issue we’ve noticed that the 2nd widget appears moves too close to the section above after clicking on the Read More button:

We’ve fixed this issue with this code added to the Custom CSS field on the Style tab of your widget’s settings:

@external {
  @media screen and (min-width: 768px) {
 div:has(> [id="block-yui_3_17_2_1_1697648702504_5828"]) {
  grid-row-start: 5;
  grid-row-end: 17;
 }

 [id="block-yui_3_17_2_1_1697648702504_5828"] {
  justify-content: flex-start !important;
 }
}
}

Instagram Feed

The Instagram Feed adds a more personal side to the website by showing real moments from the company’s work and community.

The posts highlight the people behind the brand, team members, press mentions, and local involvement — things that are difficult to show through a standard service page alone.

The only thing we would adjust is the background behind the feed. The Instagram posts already contain a lot of visual information, and the city panorama competes with them for attention.

[!note] Recommendation
Use a calmer background so the posts stand out more and the section feels more consistent with the rest of the website.

Final thoughts

Overall, Cool Hand Movers gets the most important part of a moving website right — building confidence before someone hands over their belongings. The combination of real photos, clear pricing, reviews, and detailed service information makes the company feel much more trustworthy.

The good news is that there’s no need for a major redesign here. A few focused tweaks to visuals, navigation, and CTAs could make an already solid experience feel even smoother.
