I would love to be able to do a similar thing on our website: events page full calendar; home page FEATURED events. Would LOVE to have the homepage’s featured events have a different style than the regular events.
How I see it: when I am adding or editing events in my calendar on elfsight, I would have a checkbox ( x featured event) that I only check for a few events that I want featured. I would check and uncheck them as needed for what needs to be featured at different times. And then I put another widget of the same data on the homepage, and it displays only the featured events.
Perhaps I can make do by duplicating our events widget and deleting all the non-featured events. But that would get old doing that every month or so.
Or, in the full calendar widget/data, if it had the checkbox for “featured”: export only the data of featured events to create a new widget. Or better, update the “featured” widget (export “featured” and import them to the homepage’s featured widget, so I don’t have to recreate/restyle it every time?
Other ways to do this??
Hi there, @Lynn_Cricket_Woodwar ![]()
I guess we have a workaround for your case! You can assign the same event type (for example, “featured”) to these events and use the pre-selected filters option.
This way, you’ll be able to show all events on the events page and on the homepage display only featured events with the pre-selected Event Type “Featured” filter.
Regarding the different styles, if you mean different layouts, we also have a solution -How to dynamically change the Event Calendar layout
Check it out and let me know if it worked for you ![]()
Thanks so much for getting back to me Max.
I’m already using event type (for music, youth programs, dance, theater, etc), and I can only assign one event type. Is there another way?
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to pre-select several event types, but we have this idea on the Wishlist. Feel free to upvote it here - Add multiple attributes for one filter (pre-selected filters option)
Did you ever solve this? I’d love to do the same thing on my website.
Hi there and welcome to the Community, @user4082 ![]()
Could you please describe your use case in more detail? What settings should vary depending on the change: layout, pre-selected filters, or anything else?
Thanks, Max,
The client short-sightedly ditched the calendars I put on their site for a hand-coded scraper (much uglier, and the guy who coded it is leaving the board, so we’ll see how that turns out for them). So, if you’d like to leave this request in your rear-view, no worries.
I had placed three calendars (one was just recurring events that rarely changed, and that was easy).
The two I wanted connected was one that had all the special (usually one-time) upcoming events on an interior page in the block format (the lovely museum demo), and another for the homepage that was in a list format with only some of the events (the ones the client wanted highlighted because they were sponsoring them).
My work-around was to enter all events into the all-event calendar for the interior page, and then duplicate that calendar for the homepage, delete all the events not to be featured, and then change the display settings and then place the code on the homepage. Unfortunately, I also had to delete the homepage calendar before creating the duplicate because we were limited to 3 calendars, so there was about a 10-min period when there was no calendar on the homepage. (It wasn’t that difficult to do, but the person who took over managing the non-profit, after I trained him (on my computer, as he said, “oh, I’ll get it just watching you,” couldn’t understand, didn’t want me to train him on his own computer, and threw up his hands and deleted all of it from their site. Oh well.)
Thanks!
Hi there, @Lynn_Cricket_Woodwar ![]()
Just in case, I’d like to clarify that this message was a response to the question of user4082 ![]()
However, if you referred to this message, I am happy to say that multiple pre-selected attributes are supported now.
Just in case, if your client changes his mind or you decide to use the widget for another purpose, here is an article that explains how to set it up (section: Making multiple options of the same filter pre-selected at once ) - Event Calendar: How to make certain filter selected by default
