Sometimes a widget can be used for much more than its original purpose.
We recently came across an interesting example from @Info_at_BEST — they adapted the Event Calendar widget into a searchable team directory to help website visitors find the right specialist.
Instead of displaying events, they used the widget to organize team members by services, locations, regions, and specialties. Here’s how they approached it 
The challenge
@Info_at_BEST has a growing team of specialists across multiple service areas, regions, and locations.
They needed a way for visitors to quickly find the right person — not just browse through a static team page.
They were looking for a solution that would make their team easier to search and filter.
“We’re using the Event Calendar widget as a searchable and filterable way to showcase our team members rather than traditional events.”
Why Event Calendar?
Initially, @Info_at_BEST considered using the Team Showcase widget.
However, after exploring Event Calendar, they found that its structure and flexibility worked better for their needs, especially the ability to organize content with tags and filters.
“I originally looked at the Team Showcase widget, but I liked the capabilities and flexibility of the Event Calendar better — particularly the ability to use tags to create filters and allow users to search the team.”
How the widget was adapted
To make Event Calendar work as a team directory, BEST changed the way they structured their content.
Each team member became an “event” with:
- Title → team member’s name
- Description → profile information and bio
- Tags → services, regions, locations, and specialties
- Date fields → set far into the future to prevent profiles from appearing as past events
This allowed them to use Event Calendar’s filtering and organization features in a completely new way.
“With a little customization, it ended up working really well as a dynamic team directory.”
The result
The final setup helps visitors:

filter profiles by expertise and location

explore detailed bios and specialties
