Many widgets (e.g., AI Chatbot) contain a settings section labeled “JS Code.”
Since there are many useful (and validated) JS Codes developed and posted by both the community and Effsight Support, would it be possible to create a new Community Category labeled “JS Codes”?
Once added, the new category will benefit everyone and serve as a central location to find useful JS codes for Elfsights widgets.
Note: Along these lines, it would be great if Elsfight Support can transfer all of the useful CSS and JS codes from the “General Questions” category to either the “CSS Codes” or “JS Codes” category – as applicable – for easy access by your customers.
@AeroConsultants hi Petar! Actually, your request makes a lot of sense, thank you for sharing!
As @Sina mentioned, all custom solutions that are more intricate than simple CSS codes are currently posted in Pro Tips > Elfsight Widgets Tips category. But that’s a good observation that this subcategory is not featured in the sidebar, which makes it harder to find.
I’ve noted down this idea to see how we could simplify things. Probably we’ve got to refine our Pro Tips category if it’s causing confusion
I don’t think the idea of having a JS code category is bad in principle. However, sometimes it’s not just JS code alone, but a combination of JS code with CSS code or modifications to the installation code. That’s why I wouldn’t dissolve the Pro Tips category. Ultimately, it’s about finding something for a specific purpose, i.e., function. For this, the heading, which clearly describes the benefit, is crucial. If a collection of JS code is described separately in a category, it would be important to be able to see which widgets and functions the code is intended for. Of course, implementing this without creating duplicate posts is a monumental task. Perhaps there’s some kind of hashtag or something similar, and I could then filter by #JS-CODE. Just a thought.
That’s a great thought, @Sina, and I really appreciate you sharing it!
I agree, we shouldn’t rush into refining everything right away, as everyone has different preferences. What seems convenient to one person might confuse another, and that’s totally okay
It’s great to hear that you find the current Pro Tips category useful and working as is, I just thought that probably we could make it sound more prominent, so that it’s clear it has useful stuff inside. Maybe adjusting the category and subcategory names could help make it feel more intuitive.
Anyway, we’ll keep this idea in mind and make the necessary changes (or not ).
Thank you so much for this fruitful conversation, as always!
Implementation of the above does not have to be (nor should be) complicated.
If the “CSS Codes” category exists, why resistance to create the “JS Codes” category?
If you navigate to the “CSS Codes” category, you will notice I created this topic. It was easy to create and it’s properly labeled with the proper widget tag (or hashtag as @Sina suggested). The same can be done for “JS Codes”. Each code would have it’s own unique tag. So, until a final concensus is reached, I personally recommend this solution.
The “Pro Tips” category is general in nature (it’s one big bucket), not specific. So, to find a specific CSS or JS code within the “Pro Tips” category can be a bit time consuming vs having a specific category for CSS and JS codes.
Based on the above and your valuable inputs, perhaps it would be best to create a repository for all useful codes (i.e., those provided by the community and Elfsight Support / Dev Team) and place them under a new category labeled “Library”. The “Library” can then contain sub-categories such a “CSS Codes”, “JS Codes”, “Pro Tips”, “Performance Tips”, “SEO Tips”, etc. This would help keep things organized in a logical format.
Hi @AeroConsultants
please don’t misunderstand me. I didn’t mean to be resistant at all. Your ideas sound good. I have no objections to them.
The administrative effort will show whether they are practical. I’ve read the entire forum, and the most important thing for me now is the search function. This means that the comprehensive content of each topic determines whether I can quickly find what I’m looking for. I no longer browse through categories.
Most questions in the forum have long been answered. These very questions wouldn’t arise if people used the search function or browsed the categories. It’s just more convenient to simply ask a question. Okay, that’s what support is for…and it’s incredibly good, fast, and provided carefully and with great patience.
But perhaps this topic could be reclassified. Would that then include CSS and JS in both categories?
