What is the optimal number of events to display in the calendar

I absolutely LOVE the Event Calendar widget, but I’m concerned with whether it will get clunky if there are hundreds of events included. How many events are included in your widget, and have you experienced this?

I have been going back and forth (and back and forth) between using this widget or installing a plugin like The Events Calendar. If you did the same, why did you land on this widget instead?

My goal is to have all dog-friendly events for the state of Colorado on my website. I have just gotten started and I have over 100 already. I foresee this being 500 events a year, and the current event entry is tedious. Here is my webpage if anyone wants to look:

Thank you! I’m overthinking, overtired and very frustrated at this point. :frowning:

Hi there, @Trisha_Klaus and welcome to the Community

I agree that having hundreds of events in the widget can make it a bit clunky.

I see you’re using the List layout, which only shows 10 events initially. The rest can be revealed by clicking the “Load More” button, giving visitors the option to see more without cluttering the page.

So, the List layout is definitely a great choice if you’re looking to display a large number of events in a more user-friendly way.

Let’s see how other Elfsighters use their calendars and what they think about the best number of events to display :slightly_smiling_face:

The widget is generally capable of handling a large volume of events, but performance and user experience are influenced by how the events are presented. Displaying hundreds of events in a single view can feel overwhelming, so it is usually best to make use of filters, categories, or tags to help visitors navigate more easily. With a volume of 500+ events per year, the main challenge is often less about the widget’s technical capacity and more about the process of inputting and managing events at scale. Streamlining data entry and organizing events into logical groupings will be key to maintaining both site performance and usability for your audience.

Thank you so much for the feedback!

With the new pagination feature, yo u can keep a large number of events, but display only some of them right away:

As for the event grouping, you’d like to add it only for the event list in the widget editor, right? If so, what groups do you envision for your use case?

Hi @Trisha_Klaus ,

Thank you for sharing.

I checked out your website and it’s great. I’m guessing you’re using WordPress?

Did you end up switching to “The Events Calendar” plugin you mentioned?

Kind regards,
