Store Locator: Enjoy improved location search 🔥

Our devs have seriously improved location search in the Store Locator app, and we’re excited to share the details with you :rocket:

What’s inside the update?

Locations from your list appear first in the search

Many of you asked for an option to limit search results to only the locations added to your widget.

We took a closer look and landed on a more flexible solution: locations from your widget list now appear first, followed by other places that match the search query:

This makes it easier for visitors to find your locations fast, while still allowing them to explore nearby spots on the map when needed :sparkles:

Search locations by address

Finding a location became simpler with the search by address!

Just type an address — a full one or even just a city name — and the search will pull up matching results:

Partial name search

Before, searching worked only if you entered the full location name.

Now you can type just a part of the name, and the search will still find the right match:

Searched locations now appear at the top of the list

When you search for a location, it automatically moves to the top of the list — and the list scrolls up for you, so it’s instantly in view:

This way, visitors can spot the right place faster without scrolling or hunting through the list:

Guys, have you tried out the enhanced search? Let us know what you think in the comments – we’d love to hear from you

Hi Max, I’m very excited about the new feature. I tried it and I can see my locations now. That’s agreat improvement. My own location appears first in the results, which is perfect.

However, after that, I’m also seeing some unrelated locations from different countries.

Since my map is about London, these irrelevant locations from other countries make the search results quite confusing.

For example, when I searched for “Freud Museum,” results appeared from five different countries (Austria, Germany, Russia, Greece, and the Netherlands).

Is there a setting I might have missed to limit the search results so that they only show the locations I have added to the map?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, @Baris_Guner :waving_hand:

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Those locations showed up because they match the text you typed in the search. For example, Austria also has a Freud Museum, and there are pubs named “Freud” in Germany and Greece:

Hope that clears up why you’re seeing those results.

At the moment, the search can’t be limited to only the locations from your widget list. This is because many visitors search by district, street name, or even a full address—and the search needs to be able to find those.

In theory, it could be possible to add an option to limit results to a specific country or city. If you’d like to see that in the widget, feel free to share the idea in our Wishlist

Hi Max, thanks again for the explanation. I understand how the current search works now.

What I actually need is for the search to be limited to the locations I’ve added to my map, and to only search within that dataset.

At the moment, it seems that when a visitor types a keyword, the system also searches globally for any places that contain that word, even if those places are not part of my map. This means results appear that don’t exist in my curated list, which can be confusing for visitors.

Ideally, the search would only match against the locations I’ve added, so every result shown is guaranteed to be part of my map. I think this would make a big difference for curated, theme-based maps like mine.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll share this idea in the Wishlist as you suggested. And thanks again for the clarification and for the great work on the widget.
