Send chat history to website visitors

Hi Max, it would be great that the chat history could also be sent to the visitor that was interacting with the chatbot. So that there is two emails sent: one to the address listed in the owner email field and the other to the visitor (I would train the bot to ask for an email address at the end of the conversation). I guess this is currently not possible, is it? Many thanks!

Hi there, @user21432

At the moment, there is no way to send the chat history to the visitors. However, this is a great idea and I’ve moved it to the Wishlist.

If this request gains ground, we’ll try to think it over :slightly_smiling_face:

Would be useful if the transcript sends to the user also

Great idea, thanks for sharing, @Shannon_Greene!

Do you have any idea how this should work? Maybe the assistant should ask for the user’s email beforehand so it can send the transcript afterward? Your input would be really helpful

Hi Helga,

Yes, asking for the user’s email at the start or end of the chat would work well, as long as they can opt in to receive the transcript.

Thanks a mill,

Shannon

Useful Feedback:

  1. Given the large number of bots and bad actors out there, if this suggestion is implemented, I highly recommend implementing this feature with an option to enable/disable it in the configurator. This will help reduce or eliminate spam shall the chatbot owner become the victim of rogue bots or bad actor attacks.

  2. My preference, honestly, would be for the AI Chatbot training instructions handle this one and email a copy of the transcript to the customer upon chatbot request.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

  1. Sure! If this option is released, it will be optional :slightly_smiling_face:

  2. I am afraid it will be hard to implement this behavior via instructions, but we’ll have this idea in mind too

Hey @Max,

  1. Great!
  2. Interim Solution: Add the below instructions to the chatbot configurator. Works well. See below screenshot. Caveat: Upon receipt of the customer request, the chatbot owner will have to manually send the chatbot transcript to the customer.
CHAT TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS

When a user requests a copy of the chat transcript:

- Respond exactly:
> Happy to send you a copy of this transcript. Please share your email address in this conversation. Alternatively, you can download a copy of this transcript by clicking the ‘Save Transcript’ icon located at the top of this chatbox.

- If the user provides an email address, acknowledge receipt and confirm that the transcript will be sent via email. Do **not** bold email address link provided in your reply.

- Maintain professional, white-glove tone consistent with other lead capture responses.

- Do **not** include additional instructions beyond email submission.

Although the bot mentioned (based on your instructions) that the transcript would be sent to the email, the instructions alone can’t trigger the email to be sent.

Here’s how it works right now:

  • If the Send Chat History to Email option is enabled in the widget, the chat transcript is sent following this logic:

    1. After 5 minutes of inactivity, the chatbot sends a follow-up message (if enabled).
    2. After 10 minutes of inactivity, the chat ends and the transcript is sent by email (if configured).Inactivity means no input from the user.
  • If the Send Chat History to Email option is disabled, the transcript won’t be sent.

We’re likely to apply a similar logic for the Send Chat History to Client Email feature. If it’s enabled, and the client entered their email in the contact form during the chat, the transcript will be sent.

Your suggestion involves triggering the transcript based on certain keywords or phrases (like in Skills). While this would require a more complex setup, we’ll keep it in mind as we consider the idea :slightly_smiling_face:

Agree. As I mentioned, it’s an Interim Solution with a caveat attached. Yours can be added to the one I provided. Looking forward to Elfsight’s solution! Thank you.

I’d like the bot to be able to collect user’s email and then send generated quote to them

Hi there, @Michael_Muller1 :waving_hand:

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

We already have a similar idea on the Wishlist. I’ve merged your comment with the existing request, where we’ll keep you updated :slightly_smiling_face:
