Google Calendar images not coming through on Elf Sight Calendar grid

  • Issue description:
I have added images to Google Calendar events, but for some reason Elf Sight won’t pull the images into the calendar grid. The strange thing is that I tested this with a different calendar, and the images worked. Now connecting to the client’s actual event calendar, and it won’t work.

  • Link to the page with the widget in question:
    URL: https://tier1games.squarespace.com/lafayette-events
    Password: chris

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? The image option is selected to appear, and not sure what is going on.

Hi there, @Jessica_Emery-McGreg

I am really sorry about this inconvenience!

Could you please send me a screenshot of the event with the image right from your Google Calendar?

@Max Hey, sorry I’m not sure what you’re wanting a screenshot of? I had connected a different Google calendar before to test it, but I would have to disconnect the current calendar I need to be working correctly, and reconnect my test calendar, but that’s not my end goal. I need the current Google calendar to work. I have a screenshot here of the attachment showing directly in the Google calendar. Let me know what other information you need…

@Jessica_Emery-McGreg Thank you so much!

I’ve passed this issue on to the devs. I’ll get back to you once I hear from them :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for waiting @Jessica_Emery-McGreg!

Could you please specify the format of the images you are using? Also, it would be tremendously helpful if you could share a link to one of the images

You can send me the link in private messages:

Hi @Max , the images are just JPGs, nothing weird… So not sure that would be a problem. Sending an image in messages now.

I’ve shared it with the devs and will update you once I have their response :slightly_smiling_face:

Has this been resolved ? Does it have anything to do with G drive permissions on the attachment ?
Thanks

Hi there, @Matt_Kaine

Unfortunately, there is an issue with images pulled through Google Calendar. It may appear randomly for a small part of the users, and our devs are working on the global solution

As a workaround, you could try to add a link to the image to the event description, and it will make it appear in the widget. The image needs to be publicly accessible via a link.

Please try it out and let me know if it worked :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for the reply.
I tried several combinations of having the link in the description of the event, and it didn’t work.

The g-drive share settings are " anyone with the link can view".

Hi @Matt_Kaine

Could you please share an example of the link you were using?

Of course

it is naturally difficult as I own this drive (so have full access). Even though the file is set to “view access for anyone with a link”.

I’m going to find a public URL with a jpg and try that as well. (Update: That didn’t work). To be clear - the link to the image is there, but the image is not displayed

Does it need to be the sole element in the description field ?

Hi @Matt_Kaine

Unfortunately, images from Google Drive are not being pulled to the widget due to some cors errors:

Please try to upload images to another hosting (like Imgur) and use image links from this platform. Give it a try and let me know if it worked

Thanks - here’s what i’ve tried today

  • dropbox, sharepoint and g-drive : all don’t work. Even with the 'PUBLIC viewing" option turned on to the folder AND files within them.

  • I found an image the encyclopedia brittanica site that DOES display https://cdn.britannica.com/37/75637-050-B425E8F1/Killer-whale.jpg

  • tried an image from a site for an event in the calandar and it too worked…
which implies to me that the security of these 2 sites is probably a little loose.

  • tried another site , and it didn’t work. (guess they have higher security ??)

  • used images from the site in which the widget is housed, and that too worked. Unfortunately that does reduce the benefit of integrating with a Calendar as there now needs to be a significant step to upload images.
(just tried the google PHOTOS app with similar failure)

Hi @Matt_Kaine

I completely understand your point and apologize for all the inconvenience!

Our devs are working on a global fix, and we’ll update you here once any news comes up. As for now, the only solution is to use one of the hostings which allow pulling images to the widget.

If you have any questions left or any assistance is needed, we’re always here to help!

Any update here if there’s a global fix yet?
