I am a fan of the AI chatbot and would like to see German (Switzerland) added as an option. Some characters, such as the “ß”, are different in German (Germany). We write “ss” instead of “ß”.
Alternatively, you could replace the “ß” in German (Germany) with “ss”, which would then be valid for both language regions because “ss” is not incorrect in German (Germany).
Thank you very much and best regards from Switzerland
Marc
This Language setting just controls how the text elements in the widget are translated.
As for the language of bot responses, it determines the language based on the user’s first message and continues in that language throughout the conversation. Thus, if the first message was in Swiss German, the whole conversation should be in this language version.
While AI is a great feature, it’s still not perfect, and I recommend you additionally describe your language preference in the Instructions to make sure that the bot will respond correctly:
I had already done exactly these steps before posting. German (Germany) and German (Switzerland) are the same language and differ only slightly, like English (UK) and English (USA). As mentioned, I couldn’t define that the “ß” is replaced by “ss”. Neither in the settings nor in the bot instructions.
If the vowel before the “s” sound is long, write “ß” as before. This does not change the spelling of words such as “wholesaler”, “greeting”, “street”, “measure” and “contractual”.
Wörter wie „Großhändler“, „Begrüßung“, „Straße“, „Maßnahme“ und „vertragsgemäß“.
Here the website is redirected to “de”.
This means that the German language also uses German spelling and not the Swiss spelling.
How would the bot know this?
I’ve talked to the devs and, unfortunately, the chatbot can only respond in standard German, not Swiss German. I’m really sorry about that!
I’ve added your suggestion back to the Wishlist, though. If it gets more votes, we’ll definitely consider it for the future - Swiss German as a response language
