Calculator: Display text as a result of calculation

We’re thrilled to share that now it’s possible to display a text as a result of calculation in our Calculator app :tada:

To make it work, you should add the desired text to your formula and enclose it in quotes (single or double) and select “String” Format

Have you tried the new feature? Let us know what you think in the comments — we’d love to hear your thoughts :slightly_smiling_face:

I cant see this of much use to most users, whereas a text field option in the build text field would be far more useful/beneficial, so it could be used as for example entering a discount code e.g. FRIDAY20, then a calculation can be formulated that when that specific term is entered a calculation of the discount is applied/displayed etc.

Hi there, @Darryl :waving_hand:

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

You see, this feature is meant for the cases when you need to show the text in the results instead of the number (for example, calculate the T-Shire size based on the entered parameters (height, waist, etc).

Our users were asking for this feature and we’ve released it based on the comments from this thread.

However, I completely get your idea and agree that a field to apply a discount coupon would be just great. If your request gets more votes, we’ll try to think it over in the future updates :slightly_smiling_face:

I cant seem to get this to work at all.

Hi there, @ProBike :waving_hand:

To make it work, you should choose the “String” Format first and here is a correct formula:

Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you :slightly_smiling_face:

The formatting is a bit strange; if you define it as the primary result, the variable name is smaller than the string. Unfortunately, you cannot create a ‘calculation’ as a string and refer to it in the actual display size; instead, you have to write out all strings in the display size.

Hi @Andi :waving_hand:

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

You mean that the size text result of calculation is bigger than the calculation name size, right?

If so, would you like them to be the same size or the calculation name should be bigger?
