Bug | Chatbot Typing Bubbles Disappear When Navigating to Different Site Page

Good Day,

The chatbot typing bubbles disappear when I navigate to a different site page. This is an issue since, visually, users may think that the chatbot stopped processing their request.

Details (typing bubbles appear in the original page where query was submitted): Screenshot by Lightshot

Hello,

Thank you for pointing out such a behaviour!

For us to investigate this further, please provide some tech details for me:

  • which device are you using,
  • your OS,
  • the browser that the behaviour is present on.

It would be so helpful!

Howdy!

So far, it’s happening with the following:

  1. Devices: Dell Laptops, iPhones, iPads (Models 2022 and up)
  2. OS Versions: Latest
  3. Browsers: Brave, Chrome, Edge, Firefox (latest updates)

Since Elfsight switched us to GPT-5 (today), the issue is not as “pronounced.” Meaning, the answers are provided much faster which minimizes the inconvenience or concern.

Have you tried to replicate our finding at your end using several sites?

I hope this helps.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the info!

We managed to recreate the issue, and we’ll need some time to investigate what’s going on and if it can be fixed up quickly. I’ll drop you a line about this one soon

And I’m glad that everything’s working swift for you after the migration to GPT-5 mini! Enjoy

Hey there,

Coming back with the news about the typing bubbles :raising_hands:

The devs explained that typing bubbles disappearance happens because the second tab doesn’t “know” a question was asked until the chatbot responds, as no request was sent out from this page. Thus, the animation doesn’t trigger – the second page doesn’t “wait” for an answer like the initial one, just shows the response when it comes through.

We totally get how this could confuse users, and we’re definitely thinking about ways to improve the behaviour. We’ll look into a solution and keep you posted.

And I’m glad that for you the matter is less inconvenient due to the migration to the newer GPT version. Let’s hope we do the same to every Chatbot soon :crossed_fingers:

Hello again! :slightly_smiling_face:

That makes perfect sense. However, improving the widget’s behavior under this scenario needs to be addressed and fixed in the future.

We tested several other AI chatbots * and got mixed results. Approximately 70% of other AI chatbots do carry over the widget’s contents (i.e., typing bubbles or initial message) when navigating to other pages.

What I noticed is that their chatbots behave “independent” from the pages visited. That is, the chatbox stays open with the original query submitted regardless of pages visited while the chatbot is processing the visitor’s query.

Again, many thanks for listening to my finding(s) and taking action.

You rock!

Thanks so much for your insight! I’ll let the team know of the examples, and they will continue working on the improvements :raising_hands:
