it would be usefull to know the number of photos in a Gallery

You’ve previously added this idea to the Wishlist and I agree that it would be awesome to have this feature - Displaying the number of photos published.
If this idea gets more votes, we’ll try to consider it in the future updates

Actually, this feature already exist - you go to the gallery - you open any of the photos/images in the gallery and the number of the image + the total number of images in the gallery is displayed in the top left corner of the image (see pîcture)

I am so sorry for missing that! You’re right, this feature is available in the slideshow mode. Does this cover your needs and the Wishlist request can be closed or you wanted to display the number of photos in a general gallery view (for examle, below or above the gallery)?
