a simple way for a visitor to close the whatsapp icon (i.e he doesnt want to see it anymore).

It would be great if there was an option to hide the widget completely during that visit - and have it reopen on their next visit.

This idea is already on the Wishlist and I’ve merged your comment with it. If more users support this request, we might take it into consideration in the future updates.
In the meantime, we have a custom solution to add the Close button to the chat bubble. Check this guide to see how you can do this
