Our web scanning software dings us because the Elfsight social media feed widget does not have a text alternative for our logo or the Facebook logo. Allowing us to add these text alternatives to the widget would improve accessibility and our site’s score.
Hey there and welcome aboard @user9876
Could you please share a link to the page where your widget is installed and specify what scanning software you are using? I’ll gladly check if anything can be done
The page is: Alliant Energy - Alliant Energy | News Center and the widget is the Facebook feed a little ways down the page.
We use Siteimprove. It seems to flag all the little 50x50 px logo icons on each Facebook post. This is the specific code it calls out within the tool 14 times as not having alt text:
<img style=“display:none” height=“1” width=“1” src=https://www.facebook.com/tr?id=949634562591817&ev=PageView&noscript=1>
If this is a Facebook issue instead, just let me know. Thanks for your time!
Thanks!
I’ll check with our dev team if anything can be done. I’ll let you know once I receive a response from them
Hi there @user9876
Thank you for waiting!
Our devs have investigated the issue and found that it occurs only when using Siteimprove. For instance, when checking the page with Pagespeed, this issue isn’t detected.
Anyway, we’ll try to add the alt text to the FB logo in one of our future updates. All the info about any progress will be posted here
