I would like to be able to expand and collapse the events instead of all of them showing at once.

Do I get it right that you’d like to have category buttons which will expand specific groups of events on click?
If I misunderstood your idea, please provide more details on your use case 
I’m currently using the Event Calendar widget with the “Conference Agenda” template and I’m wondering if there’s a way to display the events in an accordion-style layout, where each day can be expanded or collapsed individually.
Is this functionality available within the widget, or is there a recommended way to achieve this effect? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the Accordion Layout isn’t available in the app and there is no way to implement this customization now. However, this idea is already on the Wishlist, and I’ve added your comment there too.
