From the first glance. Mittuniversitetet website, run by @Bengt, gives you a sense of order and confidence. The layout is clean, minimal, and logical, guiding visitors through the hero section, programs, news, events, and research.
Still, there are a few areas where small improvements could make the site even more user-friendly ![]()
What’s working well?
The site has some strong points worth highlighting. Here’s what caught our attention:
Minimal, clean design
The site is peaceful and easy on the eyes. Typography is calm, white space is generous, and color is used sparingly (just a touch of signature yellow in the hero).
This aligns perfectly with expectations from a serious university: professional, trustworthy, and understated:
Hero section with a human touch
The hero section really hits the mark. The headline “Vi forskar för en ljusare framtid” paired with a child holding a sunflower feels simple, warm, and hopeful.
No academic clichés here—the message is instantly relatable and uplifting:
Clear audience paths in the header
The top bar with “Student / Biblioteket / Medarbetare” is a small but smart touch.
Different visitors can go straight to what they need, while newcomers still get a clean homepage experience:
Educational formats front and center
The three cards (Utbildning / Distansutbildning / Satsa på kompetensutveckling) quickly show the main ways to learn — on-site, online, or upskilling.
Including the number of programs and courses makes the scale feel real and impressive:
News and events feel alive
Sections like Aktuellt and Evenemang give a sense that the university is active every week.
Visitors get a real feel for what’s happening — important for both students and the academic community:
What Could Be Improved?
The site already works really well, but a few small adjustments could make it even easier and more enjoyable to explore. Here are some ideas:
Issue with Header Elements and CTA Button Display
We’ve noticed several issues that occur when switching the page language to English:
-
The buttons in the top bar change color and blend into the top bar background.
-
The text on the Login and Menu Search buttons wraps onto multiple lines, causing distortion of the buttons.
-
The text color on the CTA button changes from white to black.
These issues occur because of the styles applied to these elements:
[!tip]
Disable the two styles (color and font family) highlighted in the screenshot, which are incorrectly applied to the listed elements on the English version of the site.
Hero CTA could be shorter
The main hero button “Se våra filmer och artiklar om några av våra forskningsprojekt” is a bit long for a quick action. Shorter buttons are easier to scan and click:
[!tip]
Try 2–4 words like Utforska forskning or Se våra projekt. You can keep the full text nearby as supporting copy.
Card sections could be more distinct
Several sections (educational formats, news, events, research, programs) use a similar card style. It’s easy for the eye to glide past them without noticing differences.
[!tip]
Make section headers a bit bigger or add subtle background colors. You could also mix up card layouts — horizontal for news, date-focused for events, larger visuals for research.
Key sections could be more prominent
Upptäck forskning and Upptäck utbildningar are at the bottom. They’re important sections, but they can get a little lost in the scroll:
[!tip]
Move them higher on the page and make them stand out — larger cards, bigger headings, or a subtle contrasting background.
News titles could be easier to scan
Some news and event titles are 3–4 lines long, which makes it harder to quickly see what each story is about:
[!tip]
Limit headlines to ~60–70 characters on the homepage. Full titles can remain on the internal pages for those who want the full detail.
How do Elfsight widgets perform?
Finally, let’s see how Elfsight widgets perform on the website. They’re doing exactly what they’re meant to, enhancing both functionality and experience.
AI Chatbot
The AI Chatbot fits perfectly into the site’s design and acts as a helpful Student Support and Information Assistant. It can answer common questions, guide students to the right resources, and provide instant support whenever it’s needed.
We did notice a small hiccup: when using the Expand button, the top part of the widget sometimes went off-screen, making it a bit tricky to close:
This was caused by some custom CSS in your widget, and we’ve fixed it with an updated CSS. Now it expands and collapses smoothly without any issues:
.es-window-container:not([style*='max-width: unset;']) {
inset: auto 20px calc(var(--sizePx) - 42px) auto;
}
The Back to Top button is a simple but super handy feature. It lets users jump back to the top of the page in one click, which is especially useful on longer pages.
It’s subtle and unobtrusive, but makes navigating the site feel much easier:
Final thoughts
All in all, Mittuniversitetet hits the right tone: calm, clean, and professional. The hero section grabs attention, audience paths are clear, and the site feels alive.
A few small tweaks like shorter CTAs, more visual contrast between sections, and putting research and programs front and center could make it easier and more enjoyable to explore.
